I hail from Mumbai where I finished my undergraduate degree in Computer Science from University of Mumbai. I fell in love with the field of Computer Science and continued on to pursue a Masters Degree at IIT Madras in 2006 and a PhD from Purdue University from School of Electrical and Computer Engineering in 2013. During my Masters I worked in the field of Pattern Recognition and Image Processing in the Visualization and Perception Lab (VP Lab) under the guidance of Dr. Sukhendu Das. I worked on related problems based on this experience at Nvidia and Google. At Nvidia I was involved in developing video-post processing pipeline to support H.264 video playback using the GPU. At Google, I worked in the street-view team with focus on Computer Vision algorithms to detect and correct errors in the street-view data. I changed areas during my PhD program, in that, my dissertation brought together ideas from areas like Machine Learning and Information Retrieval to solve problems in Software Engineering. After my PhD, I worked at Box as a machine learning researcher/engineer on projects including but not limited to Content Understanding and Search Relevancy. I currently work as an Applied Researcher at LinkedIn in the Content Relevance team.
Outside of work, I spend time on activities like running, yoga, hiking, camping, salsa and bachata dancing. I love to write and often blog about events in my life or about new things I learned in my work.
